WHAT MAKES THIS DAY

• Two royal palaces in one private day — Neuschwanstein and Linderhof — from your door in Garmisch-Partenkirchen

• No two-hour transfer each way: the castles are close, so the day belongs to the castles

• Plansee across the Austrian border, where the coaches do not go, and Forggensee under the castle

• The walk to Marienbrücke for the view of Neuschwanstein everyone knows

• Dinner in Oberammergau, the village painted with fairy tales, before the quiet drive home

THE DAY

WHAT THE DAY LOOKS LIKE

Two castles from your doorstep

From Garmisch-Partenkirchen the castles are close — Linderhof is half an hour away, Neuschwanstein a little over an hour.

Neuschwanstein

The fairy-tale castle that inspired Disney. We time the drive so you arrive at your entry slot rather than queue for it, and we walk up to Marienbrücke for the view everyone recognises. The Museum of the Bavarian Kings and a boat on the Alpsee are there if you want them.

Linderhof

Ludwig II's smallest and most personal palace — gilded rooms, baroque gardens, and a fraction of the crowd. This is the one he actually lived in.

Füssen, Plansee and the road back

Medieval arcades in Füssen, Forggensee lying under the castle, then across the Austrian border to Plansee, one of the least crowded lakes in the Alps. We finish with dinner in Oberammergau, the village painted with fairy tales, and drive home quietly.

A fixed route, on purpose

This is the one day we do not rearrange: the castle entry slots and the border crossing need the order they have. Everything else, as always, moves with you.

CHOOSE YOUR AFTERNOON

This is where a private day earns its price. Depending on how you feel by lunchtime, we pick one together.

THE ROUTE

HOW THE DAY RUNS

Garmisch-Partenkirchen → Neuschwanstein → Füssen → Plansee → Linderhof → Ettal Abbey → Oberammergau → Garmisch-Partenkirchen

• Pick-up at your hotel or apartment in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

• Neuschwanstein — the interior tour, the walk up to Marienbrücke, and the stories about Ludwig II that are not in the guidebooks. Entry ticket extra.

• Füssen — painted medieval arcades, with Forggensee lying under the castle.

• Plansee — across into Austria to one of the least crowded lakes in the Alps.

• Linderhof Palace — the palace Ludwig actually lived in, with far fewer people. Entry ticket extra.

• Ettal Abbey — a Benedictine monastery from 1330 under a baroque dome, twenty minutes well spent.

• Oberammergau — dinner in Bavaria's painted village.

• Back in Garmisch-Partenkirchen — door-to-door, in the evening.

BEFORE YOU COME

MEETING POINT

Door-to-door. We collect you from your hotel or apartment in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and bring you back to the same address. The exact pick-up time we agree with you personally.

WHAT TO BRING

• Comfortable shoes — there is a walk up to the castle and on to Marienbrücke

• A warm layer

• Sunglasses

• Your passport or ID: the day crosses into Austria

KNOW BEFORE YOU BOOK

Neuschwanstein offers timed-entry tickets in both English and German, which tend to sell out very quickly—especially during peak seasons. While we are usually happy to help purchase them for you, we cannot guarantee interior castle admission due to frequent ticket shortages.

Please also note that the famous Marienbrücke (Queen Mary's Bridge) is occasionally closed during the winter months or after heavy storms.

Finally, be prepared for a bit of walking: it is a steady 20-minute uphill walk from the parking area up to the castle, along with some additional inclines and declines around the site.

NOT ALLOWED

• Pets

• Alcohol in the vehicle

CANCELLATION
